don't forget to use protection

dear fellow aussie soapers,

i need some advice about insurance. i got a quote from cgu (through ebm brokers) and it's about $1050 (not covering usa/canada) and about $1230 (covering usa/canada if less than 10% of total turnover). does this sound about right to you or should i be talking to someone else?

thank you from the bottom of my heart. xx

Hi there

I had a quote for about that price but then tried OAMPS insurance brokers as they specialise in small business insurance. They found me insurance with a triple A rated agency for around half that cost. To be honest, though, I've never considered whether it covered my product internationally. I've turned down international sales as I feel uncomfortable with the idea of posting a soap bar across the globe.

I've filled out the contact form on OAMPS twice actually, but they never called me back. Hmmmp! I'll have to ring them up, otherwise I don't suppose you could refer me directly to the broker you were dealing with? Thank you!!
I guess for me it's just that if someone overseas is willing to pay for postage and accepts the risks with Autsralia Post, then I don't really want to say no. It's hard to tell how often this will happen though, but as you say, I want to be prepared for anything.

Hi roxta,

I hope I can point u in the right direction, I came across this web site, and its for individuals such as ourselves who are soap makers, I haven't gotten to the point where I am ready to start selling, but when I do I will be starting out here as well because as a member you can acquire insurance for your business at a decent price, but I would still ask questions! The web address is. http://www.soapguild.org/

Let me know how it goes, and good luck!
