i decided to soap a blend that i created using chocolate f.o. and some essential oils. the idea behind it was to mimic (as cheaply as i could) cocoa absolute the same way i do with vanilla. of course, chocolate soap needs dark chocolate. i added some to my oils knowing that both the chocolate and f.o. would darken the base to a brown colour, but hoping that the purple would still came through.
no matter how much t.d or coloured clays i added, all i got was brown. a beautiful, rich chocolate brown, but brown nonetheless. i made the call to abandon the batch and poured it into the mould unscented. at least i had a nice chocolate soap that i could use for embeds or something. it gelled overnight, sweated brown droplets and ended up a gorgeous shade of reddish purple (just what i wanted). well, isn't that just bloody fantastic...
so here is the second attempt at making my purple cocoa soap (i will not call it chocolate soap because it brings back unpleasant memories of wasted ingredients, time and effort). the blend needs a bit of tweaking but overall i kind of achieved the result i was after.

"the silent assasin"
(i like to think of it as the cousin of the smooth criminal)
additives: black, pink and red clays, orange peel and hibiscus petals for decoration.
scent: a secret, but predominantly cocoa with lavender, some citrus and a kick of spice.

This is a fabulous soap ... love the colour and the look! Well done!
Oh my god! What a sensational colour! Wow! A question for you - in your vanilla blends, do you use vanilla fragrance or EO and if EO, what type is the best? Thanks!! xo Jen
hey Jen, i use a vanilla fragrance. if i were selling, i might be able to use the absolute as the cost could be covered to an extent. however, because i make soap for my own use i don't think the price would be justified, especially since my skin is fine with most fragrances anyway. i never soap straight vanilla (always in blends) so i'm not overly fussy about the scent being dead on accurate. if it has decent enough vanilla notes, i'll use it! xx
The colour is georgeous. A beautiful soap.
